HCG History
History of the HCG Weight Loss Program
The HCG Protocol was created by the world renowned physician A.T.W. Simeons. In 1954 Dr. Simeons published his manuscript, Pounds & Inches, summarizing the findings of his ground breaking research on the causes, symptoms, and the nature of obesity. He identified 3 different types of fat in the human body:
- The first is Structural Fat which fills the gaps between various organs, and acts as a protective barrier.
- The second type of fat is Reserve Fat which fuels the body when the nutritional intake is insufficient to meet the body’s needs.
- The third type of fat is Abnormal Fat which has the potential of providing fuel for the body, but rather than being available for nutritional emergencies, it is locked away in fixed deposits and is the visible fat that people want to eliminate.
Both of these types of fat are normal and necessary for a healthy body
In studying various weight loss programs, Dr. Simeons found that when patients starved themselves, they first lost their Normal Fat Reserve and after that the Structural Fat was burned. Only after the depletion of Normal and Structural Fat Reserves, did the Abnormal Fat begin to be burned. However, most patients experienced such weakness, hunger and headaches with little visible results; they were too discouraged to continue.
Dr. Simeons’ research introduced Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), a natural hormone produced by the body during pregnancy into his weight loss program. He found the use of hCG along with a very low calorie diet promoted higher levels of fat burning in the body. In addition to fast access to abnormal fat, he found that when patients took hCG they didn’t experience the hunger, weakness and headaches they had with low calorie diets alone. Faster results without the hunger and other negative side effects encouraged his patients and motivated them to stick to the program and achieve their goals.
